Kapolei Commons Expansion Will Add Up To 8 Tenants

Construction is underway to add four to eight new tenants at the Kapolei Commons shopping center.

Crews started construction in February to build two 6,000-square-foot buildings, one in each corner of the parking lot next to Down to Earth fronting Kapolei Parkway, according to the MacNaughton Group, which owns the property.

Jeff Dinsmore, the company’s director of development and asset management, said Thursday that two to four businesses would occupy each building, but he said the company does not have a time frame for when tenants will be announced.

The buildings, which would “match the existing architecture” and be built of “similar configuration” as other sections of the center, are expected to be turned over to the tenants for improvements this summer, Dinsmore said. The first businesses are expected to open sometime this year, he said.

“The center is planned to contain approximately 600,000 (square feet) of tenant space and we have approximately 450,000 (square feet) currently occupied,” Dinsmore said in an email. “We are building out the balance as tenant demand dictates.”

Last year Regal Kapolei Commons 12 opened at the 48-acre shopping center featuring luxury recliners and wall-to-wall screens with high-resolution digital projection systems. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, La Tour Cafe and Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguchi also opened within the past year, joining existing tenants, including Target, T.J. Maxx and Aloha Salads.
