Nareit Hawaii has given $50,000 to the Hawaii Resilience Fund and the Hawaii Life Charitable Fund will match the first $40,000 in donations made for the fund, established by the Hawaii Community Foundation and Pierre and Pam Omidyar to help the state deal with the effects of the coronavirus.

Agents had chosen another theme for the Hawaii Life Charitable Fund, an agent donor-advised fund at HCF, for 2020 before the coronavirus began to spread.

“When this hit they voted to redirect all new funds and match the first $40,000 and put it in the Hawaii Resilience Fund,” said Matt Beall, Hawaii Life’s CEO and principal broker, who is involved with HCF on Kauai, where he lives and Hawaii Life is based, and had suggested the fund. “Here’s a great direction that we can share with the concentric circles of our constituents.”

The Hawaii Life Charitable Fund was active two years ago in helping the Kauai and Hawaii Island communities, Beall noted.

“When we went through this with the flood and the volcano it was really impressive to see who stepped up,” he said. “I love the matching part – let’s all rally behind this and see what we can do. “If that leads to $80,000 for that fund that would be awesome."

Nareit Hawaii, the local office of the national association of real estate investments trusts, has directed its donation to the Hawaii Resilience Fund to a public-private partnership between the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii Community Foundation, MacNaughton Foundation and others to support the Hawaii Homeless Healthcare Hui’s COVID-19 Medical Triage and Quarantine Center at 524 Kaaahi St. in Iwilei.

“We are honored to provide this grant in support of a wellness-inspired initiative that is bringing much-needed medical care to the homeless and keeping the coronavirus from spreading further within our community,” Gladys Quinto Marrone, executive director of Nareit Hawaii, said in a statement.
